Slipping through the nether regions of obscurity, Anon Speak formed in late 2008 as a hip-hop project. The duo’s intention was to push the proverbial boundaries implicated by local hip-hop musicians and thus a year later, released their debut ‘Conventional Emporium’ – an open minded yet relatively circumspect alternative to the genre. The album was commended by Triple J Hip-Hop show host Hau Latukefu as well as securing high rotation through FBI Radio [NSW] & RTR FM [WA]. A handful of live performances ensued however concurrently, the duo began experimenting with production techniques, delving into the rusted soundscapes of harsh noise, post-dubstep, and industrial beat music. The result is undeniably denser, removing the broad preconceived notions of hip-hop and instead heavily distorting and corrupting the archetype until the model collapses in on itself.
An autonomous garbage disposal unit, Vicious Cykill represents the cyclical nature of the trend funnel; a collision of electronic musical styles all culminating in a series of chaotic tracks. V/C represents the production muscle behind Anon Speak and having already cut his teeth on a remix for the DJ Fokus and Kool Keith collaboration (available through iTunes: http://bit.ly/Mu6dzF), the solo project grinds familial bass music gears with a gritty razor’s edge.
